Brighton&Hove Albion Football Club, abbreviated as Brighton Football Club, is a professional football club located in the Brighton and Hove region of southeastern England, competing in the English Premier League for the 2024-25 season. The home stadium is located at the American Express Community Stadium.
Brighton Club was founded in 1901. In 1911, the team won its first national honor in team history - the Community Shield Cup championship. From the 1920s to the early 1970s, Brighton frequently experienced promotions and relegation between the second and third tier leagues in England. In 1979, Brighton was promoted to the top tier English football league for the first time in their history. After four seasons in the top league, the team ultimately finished at the bottom of the league and was relegated in the 1982-83 season. In 1992, the first year of the English Premier League, Brighton was relegated to the newly established third tier League Two. In 1996, Brighton Club fell into financial crisis and was relegated to the fourth tier league. In 2001 and 2002, Brighton was promoted as league champions for two consecutive years. In the 2002-03 season, Brighton ranked second to last in the English Championship and was relegated again. In the 2010-11 season, Brighton team won the English League One championship under the leadership of Gus Poyet and was promoted to the English Championship. In the 2016-17 season, Brighton returned to the English top league once again after being relegated in 1983. In the 2017-18 season, Brighton only ranked 15th in the league, only 7 points higher than the relegation zone. In the 2018-19 season, Brighton ranked 17th in the league and narrowly avoided relegation. In the 2022-23 season, Brighton achieved a historic high of 62 points and finished 6th in the Premier League. In June 2024, Fabian Hurzelle was appointed as the new head coach of Brighton, and at the age of only 31, he is also the youngest head coach in Premier League history.
In January 2025, in the 22nd round of the English Premier League, Brighton defeated Manchester United 3-1, becoming the second team to achieve a three game winning streak against Manchester United away from home.
